How to add/edit/remove contacts

When you're visiting the content of another user, in the upper part of the sidebar you'll find the "Follow updates" button. If you click on this button you will be able to add the user as a friend, an online friend, a colleague, a co-worker, etc. If you want you can skip this step. Once you have added the user, their contents will appear on your homepage.

In order to edit or remove the user and not see their content, you have to click on the "Following" button, and in the next step you will have the option to edit/remove the user. You can see the button in this screenshot. Top

How to filter the content of the people who I follow

When you add a user to follow their updates you will be able to classify them into different categories (friends, online friends, acquaintances, co-workers, colleagues and family members).

Sometimes you might only wish to receive updates from one category of contact. Using the checkboxes on the sidebar of your home page ("Filter updates" link), you can mark which categories you wish to receive updates from. Updates from those left unchecked will consequently not appear on your homepage. The new changes will be updated automatically. Top

How to publish a video

You can publish videos from any flash video sharing service.

This can be done in two ways:

Inserting a URL Video (Permalink).
We only allow YouTube, Google Video, Vimeo, Metacafe, Dailymotion, Blip.tv and MySpace Videos permalinks.

For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FT5QF4JZUA
or inserting the embed tag of any flash video sharing service.
For example: <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8FT5QF4JZUA&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8FT5QF4JZUA&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Furthermore, you can write a 140 character introduction (recommended). You will be able to see the videos by clicking on the permalink.

You can identify content, as an icon will appear. Top

How to publish an image

You can publish images from most photo-sharing websites such as Flickr.

There are two ways to publish images:

Inserting a URL Image.
For example: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rbolance/313103922/ or http://www.domain.com/photo.jpg (The image will be stored at Amazon Simple Storage Service. No hotlinking).
or uploading an image (under 3MB) from your hard drive. The image will be stored at Amazon Simple Storage Service.

As with publishing videos, you will be able to write an introduction of 140 characters. You will be able to see the images by clicking on the permalink.

What are replies? How do I reply?

If you are publishing text, video or images directed to a particular user, do so by writing their username in the following format: @username. Your post will appear in their replies box. You can check all of your received replies by clicking the replies link on your header. If you wish to receive replies from any user or restrict your replies to your following contacts, you can refer to the settings menu and select your preferences. Top

Private messages

Clicking on the Inbox link on the sidebar of your homepage, will enable you to send and receive private messages from your contacts. You can only send private messages to people if you are both following each other. Top

What is QR Code and what is it used for?

A QR Code is a matrix code (or two-dimensional bar code). Although initially used for tracking parts in vehicle manufacturing, QR Codes are now used in a much broader context. They span from both commercial tracking applications to convenience-oriented applications which are aimed at mobile phone users.

On YouAre, each post has its own QR Code. In order to read the QR Code you need to click on this icon QR Code Icon , located at the end of the post.

If you click on the icon, a new window will open. Now you will be able to read the QR Code using you mobile device. The following video shows a short demonstration.

You can read the QR Code using your mobile phone with software such as Kaywa Reader or iMatrix (for iPhone ™)

What is a QR Code used for? A quick an easy method of transferring selected data from your computer to your mobile phone. For example: contact details, a geopositioning, a web address, etc. Top
